Goopy Gunky Eyes

Lilia has had more than her fair share of eye boogers the last few days and this morning her eyes were all but glued shut. Her pediatrician prescribed eye drops for her eye infection yesterday and said to put two drops in each eye three times a day for 5-7 days.
Yeah. Right.
Have you ever tried putting drops into a 15 month old’s eyes? She screams as though we are trying to torture her and squeezes her peepers closed tighter than I ever could have imagined possible. The operation might be mildly more successful with three people–one to hog tie her, one to pry her beautiful blue eyes open and one to get the drops in. As it is I’m doing it solo 1-2 times a day.
It took nearly an hour to calm her down after the drops last night and it only got marginally easier today. The worst of it is that for all the struggle I doubt much of the medicine is even getting where it needs to go.
Why can’t eye infection medicine be a yummy syrup like her pneumonia antibiotics? That was like dessert, not punishment!
UPDATE: The eye drops got much easier when we made a game of it and let her pretend to put them in the eyes of her animals and our eyes. We squealed in fake disgust each time she did it and said “no no no drops, blech!” and it cracked her up! Doing that before and after each application really took the edge off and she stopped crying and fighting it so much.

If you ever tried putting eyedrops in my eyes, I would also scream like a little girl… I can’t do that stuff.. I’m a wimp.

Actually, me too…I have serious eye creep out issues. It’s sort of amazing to me I can pry her eyes open to get the drops in. The idea of it makes me queasy, but when you’re a mom (or dad) you just get over that panic, at least in the moment.
On that vein (another thing that creeps me out is veins!!) or rather, in that case, does Tylerstyle’s icon freak you out as well?!?

Oh man…when Ari has gotten that he was always on antibiotics too so he didn’t need the drops…. I can only imagine how hard it would be to do drops…brushing his teeth is hard enough!
