Boy or Girl?
August 7, 2008
Lilia went to her first story time at the North Beach Public Library this morning. There were a bunch of kids and a couple of them were far more interested in Lilia then in singing or reading along with the songs or books.
At the end of the first half hour most of the group left and one of the moms of the girls playing with Lilia asked me, “Boy or Girl?”. Now we get this a lot whether she’s in a pink dress or blue jeans, and I really don’t mind. I think to myself either she’s a girl or I’m pretty mean to my boy as I look down at her green and yellow jumper with flowers on it and her lacy crocheted sweater. But to the woman I smile and say, she’s a girl, to which she replied, “Oh. Looks like a boy,” and turned to walk away.
Other then that, story time was a blast. We knew some of the songs and one of the books, but there were lots of new things too and Lilia loved watching all the bigger kids play “Popcorn” and “I’m a Little Teapot”. She also got her very first hand stamp, a blue bunny, just like the big kids!
I hope to spend most of our Thursday mornings there from now on.
